Designed an AR mobile app that lets drone buyers explore product dimensions in real space, compare models side-by-side, and simulate flight paths before committing to a purchase.
The Problem
Buying a drone online is a leap of faith — buyers cannot gauge physical size, compare specs spatially, or understand flight capability until the product arrives. Returns were high and confidence was low.
Process
Empathy
Interviewed 12 drone buyers and 4 retailer staff. Identified 3 key pain points: scale uncertainty, spec overload, and post-purchase regret.
Define
Synthesised findings into 2 personas and a core "How Might We" statement. Mapped the existing purchase journey to locate highest-friction moments.
Ideate
Ran a 2-day design sprint with 6 participants. Explored 24 concepts across AR scale preview, side-by-side comparison, and simulated flight modes.
Prototype & Test
Built interactive AR prototype in Adobe XD + Principle. Ran 3 rounds of usability testing with 8 participants each, applying heuristic evaluation between rounds.
